Devour frozen meals angus beef11/29/2023 At 420 calories (70 from fat), this isn’t exactly diet-worthy, but it’s quite a bit lower than most of Devour’s other meals. One of the only complaints we typically have with any Devour meal is that the calorie counts tend to be a bit high (the White Cheddar Mac and Cheese with Bacon is a particularly notable offender, though it tastes incredible). In fact, we recommend stirring everything together to maximize your enjoyment of this dish. And doing so completely redeems the potatoes from all their flaws, since the dryness completely vanishes and the potato chunks taste phenomenal when drenched in bbq sauce. There’s a very generous portion of sauce in this dish, so if you want to spread it over the hash, you can do so without much of a problem. It’s a precarious act that Devour pulls off here. In fact, it’s very close to being too rich, but it manages to sort of limbo its way just under the “too rich” bar. This is definitely more sweet than smoky, and we love it. The topping is a sweet bbq sauce that has just a little bit of smokiness to it. You’d be hard-pressed to identify it as coming from a microwavable frozen meal. We’re surprised at how fresh this beef tastes. This beef tastes great and has a melt-in-your-mouth quality that many restaurants could only dream of. Of course, the real meat of this dish is the literal meat, and it really delivers. While the corn has a lovely roasted flavor, the potatoes are a little dry and way too chewy. Tastewise, the hash is the weaker portion of the dish. It has a sort of spicy french fry smell to it, which we found to be quite pleasing. When you take this meal out of the microwave, you’ll smell the seasoned potatoes in the roasted corn potato hash. So when we opened up the package containing Devour Sweet and Smoky Angus Beef, our expectations were almost unreasonably high. They whip up an incredible Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese, and their Lasagna Alfredo with Bacon and Sausage is a top-tier frozen lasagna. Devour really is one of our favorite frozen food makers.
